My impressions of the third Agile Serbia conference

Last month, I had a chance to attend one of the biggest Agile and IT conferences in our region, 3rd Agile Serbia Conference, which was held on April 27th in Belgrade.

This year main topics were Agile methodologies, leadership and software development.

It became clear already on the registration that there is a large number of attendees. Opening Keynote started half an hour later because of the big line on the registration.

The conference started with the opening Keynote “Why 21st Century Leadership and Agility Go Hand in Hand” by Bob Hartman (known as Agile Bob) - board member of the Scrum Alliance since 2015. Bob was talking about management and leadership, explaining the importance of leadership over management. Not only teams, organizations should be Agile as well.

After an opening Keynote, we could choose presentations on three stages (EPIC -main stage, DEV – stage with discussions on the current topics from the Agile world and EXE – stage with interactive workshops). There was something for everyone.

Interesting corner for attendees was a Coaching Corner, intended to the informal conversations between Agile Coaches and conference participants, and the exchange of experience.

Beside Bob Hartman, we had the opportunity to hear speakers like Marcello Duarte, Marc Löffler, Karl Scotland, Olaf Lewitz and many more.

With three tracks and so many sessions, it was impossible to attend everything.

Sessions that really stood out for me were:

•    “Failure is not an Option” by Karl Scotland. According to Karl, many people are afraid of failure, but it is not necessarily bad, we should embrace it. As he said, FAIL could be an acronym for “First Attempt in Learning”.

•    Another great presentation was “How does a technical guy become an Agile Leader?” by Olaf Lewitz. He shared with us his story about the journey from introvert engineer to an Agile Leader.

All in all, the conference was great – with a lot of sessions, workshops, some great conversations, and opportunities to expand the agile practice.

Thank you Bosnia Agile for a chance to attend 3rd Agile Serbia Conference.
