Business Analyst is the keeper of the requirements that defines the value of the product. Analysis goes far beyond writing documentation, it’s about analyzing the data, finding the problem, assessing the capabilities, and finally, define the solution to the business problem.

“If I had an hour to solve a problem I’d spend 55 minutes thinking about the problem and 5 minutes thinking about solutions.”

                                                                                                                                                               Albert Einstein

Many project fails because of the poor requirements and communication between stakeholders. For large projects: organizational structure, environment factors, company capabilities… are simply too complex to be addressed by the project manager, product manager or product owner. Big projects are affecting multiple products and services, several departments, making the understanding of the business needs difficult. Person that will elicit requirements, shape it in the form that is understandable for every stakeholder, and track it throughout the project is Business Analyst.

In order to support and define the role of the Business Analyst, most influential project management organization PMI (Project Management Institute) has introduced PMI-PBA (Professional in Business Analysis) exam. Detailed and comprehensive exam contains definition of the role, best practices, most commonly used tools, guidelines on how to integrate requirements into iterative and adaptive project cycles.
